Finally Meeting notes from our meeting on 2/10/11

Discipline: God Disciplines who He loves to shape us

The Foundation of discipline is …
A. unconditional love, not deserved or requested, comes out of who we are
B. pathic (sp?)acceptance – feel with them
I don’t have to make you into what I think the perfect child should be
What does THIS child need to thrive and grow up?

1. LOVE – “Love not expressed is Love lost”
Touch, Cuddle, Play
Harder to discipline them if they don’t feel this love

2. Love is not enough – Establishment & Maintenance of Healthy Boundaries
Learning to limit one’s desires
Discipline is not punishment – Discipline is shaping one’s character
“Parenting with Love & Logic” has great tools to discipline

Goal: grow up to love other people, have empathy, be a responsible caring adult
How do you raise loving adults?
*Give & Receive Love
*Establishment of Boundaries that they have to follow with logical consequences
*Sacrificing for Others – change them from thinking they are the Center of the Universe
Learning to give up of needs for the sake of others

Plan experiences for your child to give up their things, their needs
If they are a selfish child they will become a selfish adult
Learning “To set aside your needs for a time for others”

3. Your Action changes their behavior
They will push until you take action.
Discipline is the stuff you DO not what you say that matters.
If you don’t do what you say they will never listen.
Teach them Responsibility at a really young age – putting things away is as much fun as playing with them.

4. I have to be willing to make my child unhappy/cry/hurt their feelings
Choose child’s respect over child’s love
Whatever may make you back down – you have to withstand

“To have a child is to take the risk of being wounded.”
When you love you cannot guarantee they will love back or be exactly who you want them to be.

Meeting 2/10/11

I was so sad to miss Pastor Jim Mead speak yesterday. I have talked to a few people about it and am waiting for notes (for myself and this blog). What are your thoughts about yesterday's speaker? What did you take away from it that you will implement into your parenting?

My Peace

Here is today's devotion from Jesus Calling:

"My Peace is like a shaft of golden Light shining on your continuously. During days of bright sunshine, in may blend in with your surroundings. On darker days, My Peace stands out in sharp contrast to your circumstances. See times of darkness as opportunities for My Light to shine in transcendent splendor. I am training you to practice Peace that overpowers darkness. Collaborate with Me in this training. Do not grow weary and lose heart."

John 1:4-5; Hebrews 12:3

Pot Pie

I have always LOVED pot pie. My favorite is my mom's simple one. However I keep hearing of the Pioneer Woman's Amazing Turkey Pot Pie http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2009/11/quick-recipe-leftover-turkey-pot-pie/. So I thought I would try it. It is YUMMY!! I switched up a couple things, I added chicken and used fat free half and half because that is what I had. The fat free half and half is thinner so I had to add some cornstarch to thicken it a bit more. I also cheated on the crust. I had a frozen pie shell so I just had to make a crust to put on top. I made it for my family to eat when I wasn't home last night. So today I finally tried it for lunch, I almost think Pot Pie leftovers are better. This is an easy/cheap meal that I think might be my "new baby" meal for friends. I really want to try and freeze it before the baking process so I can make more than one at a time. Let me know if any you try that or have tried it before.

Time at home

I was thinking about the last time I updated and realized it was last week. Sorry!! I am always thinking about stuff to share with our MOPS group. Wednesday and thursday we were homebound with a girl who threw up once (but you still have to follow the 24 hr rule for germs)! I should have had time to updated then.

Have you ever thought "If I could just be home for a whole day I could get so much more accomplished". I do know some of you with younger ones feel like sometimes you are home too much, but with one in school, one in preschool, Bible study and MOPS, I am never home for a solid day. So I should have had time to update the blog. But what I found myself doing was moving a little slower because I didn't have anywhere to be. I actually got laundry put away within 24hrs of it being folded. I sat down and did bible study homework. Cleaned up lunch right after lunch. All the jobs in the house that scream at me and it was nice to pay attention to them instead of rushing through or past them. What is your favorite thing about having a day at home when you know you don't have to get in the car once? Or what is you favorite thing to do to escape the cabin fever or housework?

Happy Month of Hearts, Pink and Red and LOVE

While Valentines Day is so commercialized it is a great time to show some extra love to the people in your life. They can range from simple little love notes to a special dinner out. Gifts of yummy chocolate to something more special. Heart shape sandwiches, their favorite dinner or a yummy chocolate dessert.

The most important thing to remember is that you are loved like no other by a God who wants you to be in relationship with Him.

Spa Day recap

We hope you were able to sit back and relax last thursday. We were so happy to provide some activities for you to pamper yourself. What was your favorite park of spa day?

For those of you who signed up for the massage that didn't happen we are figuring out something special for you all!

What is your favorite spa activity?

How do you pamper yourself at home?

Some easy pampering you could do for yourself that we had for you:
1. Short massages
2. New Undergarments
3. Freshen up that nail polish
4. Give yourself 15 or more min of physical exercise a day
5. Curl your hair
6. Put on make up (one think I don't do daily anymore)
7. And a little big of a splurge. Parrafin hand or foot dips. The electric bowl thingy runs about $30 at Target, you can get the wax there too. Use what ever plastic you want and sit back and relax.
